Delving into Distilling

On March 14th 2009, Sipsmith opened the first new copper distillery in London since 1820.

The distillery idea began in a tiny workshop in Hammersmith with two childhood friends Fairfax and Sam who had a simple mission "to bring London Dry Gin of truly uncompromising quality and character, back to the city where it first earned its name."

Bringing back small batch gin production to the capital for the first time in 200 years, the distillery currently creates 5 gins with a nod to traditional handcrafted production, using traditional copper pot distillation and a recipe that dates back to the 18th century.

London Cup Edition

Alongside Sipsmith's classic London Dry Gin, this month's Tipple Box also features their London Cup edition.

In 2016, Sipsmith launched London Cup, a gin inspired by London's 1800 punch craze.

After British sailors returned to London from India, they brought with them the drink that takes its name from the Hindi word 'panch' meaning five which is in relation to the five flavour components in a traditional punch – alcohol, water, sugar, citrus and spice.

The Sipsmith London Cup is created from the band's classic London Dry Gin with an added blend of Earl Grey tea, lemon verbena and borage with a selection of vermouth and bitters.
